You got an email from me yesterday and may not have recognized the sender. If so, I apologize.
We may have connected some years ago through an academic conference or through Toastmasters or because you found my writing and subscribed. I haven’t corresponded with my community very regularly the last few years, mostly because of having little control of my time. As some of you know, I have a severely disabled daughter, and her complicated care has often (very often) derailed anything I had resembling plans.
It has been said if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. Our daughter certainly taught us that.
In any case, I have used various mailing list platforms to keep track of connections. Since I just started on a new writing project and invited interested people to come along for the ride, I thought it would be a good idea to pull all those lists together. (You can read about the venture here:)
I didn’t realize that Substack would be so efficient about processing the disparate lists, though. I posted yesterday about “Early days progress” thinking that only the folks who had read the “Go for a ride with me?” piece would see it.
So (those of you reading this in email) got yesterday’s out of the blue with no context. My apologies for any confusion!
But it looks as if many of you have an interest in what we’re developing here, and I’m glad to have you along.
If you’re saying, “I just don’t remember this guy, and I’m really not interested in what he has to say,” I will fully understand if you unsubscribe. Heck, why should care if I understand or not, right?
But if, after reading what we’re about here with Go for a ride with me? and yesterday’s Early days progress your curiosity leads you to stick around, I will be happy to share the journey with you and anyone you want to share it with. After all, I have figured out that Curiosity is one of my top five values, and I suspect it may figure in your top five as well.
For anyone stumbling across this post: it’s worthwhile subscribing since we occasionally share material only available to subscribers. But the main incentive we hold out here is simply the opportunity to watch the process and be a part of it.
To all who have read this far: thank you for being here, and I hope to make it worth your time. And don’t worry—I’m not going to suddenly start bombarding you with email. Usually I’ll write once or twice a week, and then only if I actually have something to share.
