I’m not planning to send these out by email each week, since I’m not sure everyone would want them in their inbox. But I did want to share this one so you can see what we’re doing with Substack Live. The replay will be available here, and we’ll continue to go live most Sunday afternoons when the window opens.
We had a few tech hiccups with the originally scheduled Live, and this one is a bit raw. Honestly, that’s part of the point. I had planned a quick 10-minute “thinking out loud,” but it turned into a longer, wide-ranging conversation.
I’m grateful to J. Kevin Tumlinson for jumping in. What followed was thoughtful, practical, and refreshingly unpolished in the best way. A few others joined us along the way, and we’re still not entirely sure how they found us. That seems to be part of the early Substack Live experience, and we’re learning as we go.
Thanks for being part of the experiment.
You can follow Kevin, a prolific author and deeply knowledgeable publishing expert, at

I mentioned David McIlroy during this. You might want to check him out. Plus, among others, Matty Dalrymple joined us. What a great community on Substack!
Since we’re all figuring this out together, I’d love to hear your take. What worked for you? What didn’t? What are you still wondering about?
If you’d like to follow along, you can subscribe for free to get notified about posts, podcast episodes, scheduled Lives (usually Sunday afternoons, when life cooperates), and the occasional spontaneous one.
And if you find yourself thinking, “You should see what these guys are up to,” feel free to pass it along.
